Highlights or balayage – what is the difference?

Highlights and balayage are the two most common ways to lighten hair, but they produce different results. The choice is about how even or how soft you want the light to be.

Highlights

Highlights are placed in foils in even sections from root to tip. The result is an even, defined lightness across the hair. It suits you if you want a more uniform, controlled lift.

Balayage

Balayage is painted on freehand so the light is strongest at the ends and gradually softer towards the root. The result is soft and natural, as if the sun lightened your hair.

Which suits you?

  • Choose highlights for an even, distinct lift or to go lighter in several steps.
  • Choose balayage for a soft, low-maintenance look with less visible regrowth.
  • If unsure, book a test strand or consultation so you see the result on a small section first.

Either way, Rodika finishes with WellaPlex No.1 & 2, which rebuilds the hair’s internal structure during the treatment.
